Mordecai Dixon Jr was born to Mordecai Dixon Sr and Awilda Dixon on June 17, 1943.  He grew up on 115 ^th Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem New York City with a large, loving family.  One of eldest children of eight, he learned early in life to love and serve God, his family and community.

Mordecai was an industrious youth and could often be seen working alongside his father or helping his mother, whom he loved dearly.  He assisted his family and was impacted by his sisters, who each played a role in his growth and his life.  Mordecai was a "family man" and faithfully attended House of Prayer where he and his family worshipped.

A talented athlete and an exceptional student, Mordecai excelled in sports and studies.  He loved music, had a melodic voice and enjoyed films, especially comedies, westerns and mystery movies.  He was a youth with great promise and held in high esteem by those in his neighborhood.

With a strong sense of family and a driving force to serve; Mordecai forged a career path of service to his country (the Marines), his community (NYPD Investigative Detective), his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus, whom he loved very much.  When Mordecai embraced you, you were family, period!

Mordecai honorably returned from service to his nation and lived the values of the Marine Corp until his last day.  He embodied the value Semper Fidelis – always loyal and would often say, "Once a Marine, always a Marine".  He was loyal to his family, community and his nation.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2020 Mordecai took his last breath with family present.  The last words spoken to him were "It is ok, dad…this is just from Life to Eternal Life." He even transitioned in style…no pain, just peace and a very quiet sigh.  Now, he is in the loving arms of a beautiful Father, The One whom he patterned his life after.

Mordecai is survived by his Children : Mordecai Dixon III, Nicole Marie (husband Ray), J McLaughlin Jr (wife Selina), Monique Stephens (husband David). Grandchildren :  Asa McLaughlin (wife Michele), Briana Niakian (husband Christopher), Miles, Simone, Sophia, Josiah, Aaliyah. Great grandchildren : A'laysia and Glory Belle.

Sisters : Mary Helen Dixon, Theressa Dixon, A. Louise Dixon, Brenda Babbs, and Alma Wilder.

Sister in Love :  Margaret Harvey, Lillian Simmons

Nieces : Missy Dixon, Cynthia, Nadine Mulberry, Elvira Nosworthy, Lavada Smith, Brenda Edwards, Sylvia Rossand, Rene Scott, Jennifer Drake.

Nephews : Curtis Dixon, Alonzo Dixon, Gregory, Gary, Neal Munn, Victor Munn, Edward Babb, Lamont Babb, Freddie Carpenter, Shawn Carpenter, Jeffery Simmons, Daryl Johnson, and a host of Great Nieces and great nephews.

We will miss you dad, Daddy Mordie, Papa, Papa Mordie, Junior, Uncle Jr., Brother, Friend.  You are dearly loved.
