Monica Bridget (Kuruc) Locke

Monica Bridget (Kuruc) Locke died November 27, 2022 after a short illness at Morada Cy-Fair Assisted Living in Houston, Texas. Born on October 8, 1920 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, Monica was the daughter of John and Anna (Rentko) Kuruc. She grew up in Nanticoke and attended St. Joseph's Slovak Catholic Church. The church was a special place for her throughout her life. She was a member of the Sodality, Catholic Daughter's, and the Padre Pio Society. She considered it a great honor to participate in the closing ceremonies of the church through the ceremonial locking of the church doors for the final time.

In 1940 Monica married Walter J. Locke from the Alden section of Nanticoke. After World War II they moved to Washington, D.C. She began working for the Potomac Electric Power Company in the Personnel Department where she worked until 1979 when she retired as department Supervisor. In 1981 the couple returned to Nanticoke where she lived until 2006 when she moved to Houston, Texas to live with her son and his wife until she finally moved to The Morada Cy-Fair Assisted Living Facility. During that time she was a member of St Joseph Guild at St Ambrose Catholic Church.

She remained active during her life busying herself with needlework, sewing, cooking, crafts, word puzzles, and reading. At 102 she was still very alert, involved in life, and enjoying her family, especially her great granddaughter.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter in 1983, her sister Johanna, and both her brothers; Francis and John Kurtz. She is survived by her son Lowell and wife, Judy of Houston, and grandsons Thomas and wife Erin of Houston, and Andrew and wife, Amy and great granddaughter Aubrey of Alexandria, Virginia.

The family would like to thank the Morada Cy-Fair staff members who showed Monica such compassion and love over the years. We also thank the staff of Care Team Cross-roads Hospice for their compassionate care at the end of her life.
