Mitzie Gay Clark, 86, of Spring, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on October 23, 2023. Mitzie passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband, Sherman Clark, by her side.

Mitzie was born on May 17, 1937 to Weldon and Loyce Boyle in Graham, Texas. She spent the majority of her childhood in Loving, Texas where she was the oldest of four children. Mitzie played piano in junior high, high school and at church, participating in piano recitals and auditions by the Piano Guild. She was a member of the National Fraternity of Student Musicians in 1954. She also was the fastest typist in her school and went to participate in a state typing and shorthand competition in Dallas, placing in the top 7 or 8 out of ~50 participants. After graduating from Graham High School in 1954, Mitzie attended Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas (now Texas Tech University) after two years where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and studied Business Administration.

In November 1955 Mitzie married Nelson "Buddy" Hargrove and she began employment as a secretary at the Police Department on Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas. Nelson was transferred to El Paso where Mitzie worked as a secretary in Financial Services. In 1958 they were blessed by the birth of a son, Kevin Neil Hargrove, and moved to Houston, Texas where Mitzie became a stay-at-home mom. In 1959 she gave birth to a daughter, Dawn Lynette Hargrove. When Kevin started school, Mitzie went to work in downtown Houston at Humble Oil & Refining Company (later Exxon) and began her career as an executive secretary in Marketing. Her 14-year marriage to Buddy ended in divorce.

In 1971, Mitzie met the love of her life, Sherman Ralph Clark, of Baskin, Louisiana. They were married on June 12, 1971 and spent their honeymoon in Acapulco and Mexico City. They moved to Oak Ridge North, Texas where they became founding members of Faith United Methodist Church and made friends with the surrounding neighbors. While living there Mitzie discovered her talent as an artist, painting numerous oil paintings at the request of family and friends. They both loved gardening and frequently won Yard of the Month. Their house was featured on the front page of The Conroe Courier for their extensive Christmas decorations which tended to create a lot of traffic in the month of December.

Mitzie and Sherman loved to go dancing, loved to travel seeing much of the U.S., frequently went to the theater, collected antiques, and loved spending time with family and friends. At Exxon, Mitzie had been promoted and began selling butane and propane gas in Aviation, and although she was successful at everything she attempted, she did not enjoy that type of job. She quit her job and they moved to Woodcreek Subdivision in Houston, Texas where they became good friends with the surrounding neighbors. While living there Mitzie returned to work at Exxon as an Administrative Assistant in Subsurface Engineering, this time at the Greenspoint location. She worked until she had back surgery and forced to take medical retirement. After retirement, Mitzie designed their dream home and they had it built in Red Oak Ranch in Conroe, Texas and had many happy years there.

Over the years, Mitzie and Sherman loved visiting with family and all of their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary, rarely being apart during all that time.

Mitzie is preceded in death by her parents, Weldon and Loyce Boyle, her sister, Shirley Yvonne Boyle, her son, Kevin Hargrove, and her granddaughter, Erin Hope Hargrove.

Mitzie is survived by her loving husband, Sherman Clark; daughter, Dawn Hargrove Hoover and her husband Shannon; daughter-in-law Amy Hargrove; grandchildren, Whitney Hargrove Etzel and her husband Ethan, Stephenie Hoover Schneider and her husband Aaron, Garrett Hargrove, Landon Hargrove, Carson Hargrove; and six great grandchildren. Mitzie is also survived by her sister, Sandra Olsen, brother Dwight Boyle and his wife Barbara, brother Wayne Boyle, sister-in-law Joyce Woodward, brother-in-law Charles Clark and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
