Mike Ruocco, known to family as "Poppy," passed away on August 6, 2018, at the age of 76 years.
Born a native of New York City, Mike joined the United States Military as a Marine at age 18. In 1962, he joined the Local Union 3 IBEW as an electrical apprentice. Soon after starting his career he met Carol Stoltz and they married at ages 21 & 18 respectively and began their family in 1964 with the birth of their first child. Mike's career progressed as his family grew to 4 children. To make ends meet he took on extra work at the Post Office, Marty's Hobbies, and as a teacher at the Union School.
In 1976, he relocated the family to Houston, Texas where he became a master electrician and he began his career as a serial entrepreneur owning companies called Rocon Electric, Brooklynn Electric, Atom Electric until semi-retiring in 2008 to focus on his golf game.
Mike loved people, music, food as well as a good Western or an Astro's game on the television. Most of all he loved his wife, family and golf (there are varying versions of the particular order). He is remembered by all that knew him as a kind man with enormous empathy for others and a sense of humor that never faded regardless of any situation or struggle he may have faced.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol Ruocco (Stoltz), children Michael Jr 1964, Christina 1966, Matthew 1970 and James 1971, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Mike's life will be held at 6 pm, on Saturday, September 1, at the Wind Rose Golf Club, 6235 Pinelakes Blvd, Spring, TX 77379.
