Michael George Rice passed away after a 6-year battle with MDS on April 15, 2023 surrounded by his wife, daughter and granddaughter. He was born on August 6, 1940, to Homer and Mary Rice in Loving, TX.
He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX on a football scholarship and graduated in 1963 with a BS in Business. He joined the military and served in the US Army Reserves National Guard.
After he served, he met his wife, Becky Wells on a blind date and married her on March 23, 1967. His career took them to Alabama, Florida, and Texas where he would retire as a VP of Group Sales for Alexander and Alexander Insurance Agency. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Becky and his family. Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
He was an avid golfer with many trips around the world in golf tournaments. In 2005, Mike won the U.S.G.A. Senior Amateur Championship…the highlight of his golf career! Mike and Becky met so many wonderful golf friends and their spouses all over the United States and made lifelong friendships with them.
Mike was an honorable man, who loved his faith, family, friends, and golf. He and his wife have been long time members of Lakewood Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mary Rice and his brother, Ronny Rice. Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Becky; daughter, Alison Wynn and her husband, Philippe. His granddaughter, Madison Woody and her husband Kelly and his two great grandchildren, Braydon and Harper.
He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a humble man who had a deep love for his family and friends. We are deeply thankful for all the outpouring of love and help from our dear friends.
