Obituary

Michael Curtis Murphy passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully in his sleep May 28, 2016. He was born on August 3, 1946 in Great Falls, Montana and was raised in Ely, Nevada by his beloved Aunt and Uncle, Lydia and George Swallow. Michael was a graduate of the University of Maryland and earned a master's degree from Webster University.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968 and was a Vietnam veteran. Michael attended Officer Candidate School (OCS), Special Forces OCS, Para Jump School, and many other Army schools during his career. He proudly wore a Green Beret. He served as an Infantry Officer until retiring in 1988. Upon retirement, he worked at Western Geophysical in oil and gas exploration. He then worked for Calpine in the power plant construction division.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a devoted Red Sox fan, and a gifted teller of jokes and life stories. Michael will be greatly missed by his family and many friends near and far.

Michael is survived by his wife, Linda (Lemoine), daughter Erin Salinas, son-in-law Jose Salinas, daughter Courtney Murphy, grandsons Alexander and Michael Salinas, and a sister Jennifer Lee of Ely, Nevada.

A memorial Mass will be held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10:30am at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister Road in Houston, Texas. Burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas at 12:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in Michael's name be sent to the American Red Cross.
