Obituary

M ichael A. Marshall, age 73, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 in Spring, Texas.

He was born near the beach in Corpus Christi on March 16, 1946 to Otis and Pauline Marshall and was the oldest of 2 children.  Within a year, the family had moved to Galveston. Mike attended San Jacinto Elementary, Stephen F. Austin Junior High School, and Ball High School in Galveston.  Sports were a big part of his life, and he always talked about how the drive to play kept him focused. Mike played football, basketball, and ran track.

After graduating from Ball High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served for 3 years.  As both country and education were incredibly important to him, Mike attended Galveston College upon his return from the army and was the first male cheerleader there. He went on to the University of Houston earning a degree in Accounting.

Mike met Sharon Klaes in 1974 while working at American National Insurance in Galveston, and they married in 1975. Together they had 2 daughters, Lyndsay and Abby.

Mike found success in his 40-year career in Credit Unions as President and CEO of several organizations during that time. He was dedicated to helping others through his work and community. He taught finance and credit union courses at College of the Mainland and was involved in Rotary Club in further service to others.

One of his great loves was music, and he spent endless hours with his girls listening and singing along to every genre -- playing "Name that Tune" and "Name that Artist" and teaching lyrics while they played back up singers to his antics.

Mike absolutely adored his girls and enjoyed the latter years of his life spending time with them. He retired from work which left him lots of time to spend with his newest girl, his granddaughter Riley.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sharon, his daughters, Lyndsay Rogers and Abby Marshall, sister Linda Hibbs, and his granddaughter Riley.
