Michael Lorehn, 70, of Houston, TX, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on
June 10th after a courageous three and a half year battle with brain cancer.
Michael was born in Houston on February 11th, 1951 to Olle Lawrence and Helen Lorehn. After
graduating from Memorial High School in 1969, he went on to earn a business degree at
Stephen F. Austin State University.
Michael began his career with Cameron Iron Works in 1973. His 30 years with Cameron
afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the world, living in London,
Singapore and Tokyo. A transfer in 1981 brought him to California, followed by 13 years in
Colorado and finally back to Houston in 1997. Michael was a born salesman and a man who
impressed everyone he met with his honesty, loyalty and integrity. Throughout his career and
his personal life, Michael built strong relationships, many of whom became lifelong friends.
In 1984, Michael met his beloved wife Susan and for both it was love at first sight. After one
month they became engaged and were married on June 22, 1985. The following years saw the
birth of their four children, Austin, Kyle, Audrey and Bryce.
From the beginning, Michael was passionately and actively involved in his children's lives. The
busy years included coaching sports, driving to dance, cooking countless briskets for both the
Boy Scouts and as a Pit Pop for the high school band and planning camping trips for the family
in their camper. One of his proudest accomplishments as Scoutmaster of Troop 1550 was
guiding his three sons to become Eagle Scouts.
After retiring in 2015, Michael spent his time playing golf, a life-long passion, riding his bicycle,
driving his vintage Mustang and traveling the country with Susan in their beloved camper aptly
named "Happy Trails". Among their favorites was a 5,000 mile trip up the west coast and
throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Michael was an eternal optimist and the life of the party. He was always smiling, looking to help
others and ensuring no guest at his house was without (or at least offered) an ice cold Shiner
Bock.
Michael is predeceased by his father, Olle Lawrence and his mother, Helen.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, his four children and their spouses, Austin and Lindsey
Lorehn, Kyle Lorehn and Elizabeth Close, Audrey and John Garcia and Bryce and Olivia
Lorehn; his three grandchildren, Logan Lorehn, Nadine Close and Amelia Garcia; his three
siblings, Luellen Wells, Becky Lorehn Stewart and Olle Lawrence Lorehn, Jr. and many nieces
and nephews.
A vigil will be held at Klein Funeral Home - Champions on June 15th at 7pm CT. Services will be
held at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Spring, TX on June 16th at 11am CT. In lieu of
