Obituary

Michael Morey Long passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on March 13, 2024.

Mike was born in Dallas, Texas on October 11, 1957.  He graduated from Highland Park High School and attended the University of North Texas.

Mike spent his post education years in the family business, Hendrick Long Publishing where he achieved the rank of Book Commander.

Michael was the definition of a Family Man (not the Hall and Oates version.)  He was a devoted husband to his wife, Vilma, for 26 years as well as a loving father to his children and grandchildren.  When it came to his family and friends there were no limits to his kindness and generosity.

The Book Commander had many passions.  From a book perspective, he loved to read anything written by James Patterson – and from a recommendation perspective he STILL highly recommends any book published by Hendrick Long Publishing.  He was drawn to cars  – he enjoyed working on them – and he enjoyed showing up with new "additions to the family."  Think Corvette; think BMW.  You could always find a Chevy truck in the driveway that was lifted just high enough so it could not fit in any type of garage.  Mike loved to attend football games as long as he had the company of family or friends.  He also loved watching golf because the pace of the sport allowed him to skim through Hot Rod articles.  Mike loved to travel and took the family all over the United States and cherished those times.  While traveling, you could  find him jamming out to artists like the Grateful Dead and Lou Reed.  Mike also cleaned up nice and regularly volunteered at Vacation Bible School.  If Mike were to win an Oscar or Grammy for something in life, it would be for his excellent conversationalist skills.  He could literally hold filibuster length discussions with anyone.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents James and Joann Long and his father and mother-in-law Joe and Amanda Falcon.  He is survived by his wife, Vilma Long, his children, Taylor, Caroline (Cameron), David (Angela), James (Janie), sister MaryJo Boidock, aunt Patricia Long, uncle Dave McKeon and his wife, Margie, his brothers and sisters-in-laws, beloved dog Evie and his beloved grandchildren Devin and Finley.  He will forever be cherished and missed.

The family would like to thank everyone that has sent their condolences, flowers, food, cards and support during this difficult time. We are sincerely appreciative and grateful.
