In Loving Memory of Michael Reu Lataquin
May 8, 1955 – March 10, 2026
MICHAEL REU LATAQUIN, of Houston, Texas, went safely home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Michael Reu was born in Iloilo City, Philippines, on May 8, 1955, to Reynaldo Tolentino Lataquin and Luz Belanio Lataquin.
Michael Reu went to school at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo, where he completed his elementary, high school, and college education, earning his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1976. He immediately began his career as a pump engineer, a field that became his lifelong professional interest. He also served as a part-time instructor of mechanical engineering at his alma mater.
In 1981, Michael Reu married the love of his life, Victoria Arroyo. They immigrated to the United States shortly after, where they built a life rooted in perseverance and family. They shared 46 years of marriage and together raised three children. He shared many of his passions with them—including his love of good food, movies, music, as well as an appreciation for cars, firearms, craftsmanship, and history—along with the wisdom and guidance that shaped their lives. Weekends and free time were often filled with laughter and simple pleasures he loved most.
Michael Reu was preceded in death by his parents, Reynaldo and Luz Lataquin, and his brother, Simon Reuther Lataquin.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Victoria; his children: Janmarie Lataquin Barta (husband Joshua and their daughter Izabella, his cherished granddaughter), Mike Raymond Lataquin, and Mark Richard Lataquin; his brothers: Reuben, Reuel (wife Lorna), and Peter (wife Melvisa); his sister, Lourdes Lourella Lataquin Cruz (husband Bernard); his sister-in-law, Corazon Lataquin (wife of Simon); and several nephews and nieces.
He was a man of quiet dedication—to his work, to his family, and to the life he built for those he loved. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. With gratitude, we entrust Michael Reu to God's loving mercy, confident in the promise of eternal life.
