Mavis Seeger 1926 – 2018

Mavis (Mireau) Seeger, 91, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2018. Mavis was born on March 30, 1926 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Her family and ancestry were French Canadian. She was a part of the great generation that lived during the Depression and WWII.

As a young girl she enjoyed ice skating with her white figure skates. During the Depression, her family of 6 received food once in a while from relatives who had farms. Her schooling was very strict, and she would tell stories about the nuns in grade school. In 1942 the family moved to Milwaukee where she graduated high school. She attended one prom with a dress crafted out of curtain material. She had a part time job at the phone company during high school.  She also worked at a large department store. The Mireau family ran a small boarding house after WWII where she shared a tiny room with her sister.

It was during this time that she married the love of her life, Richard Seeger, for a bond that lasted 67 years until his death last year. Over the years the family lived in Milwaukee, the Chicago suburbs, and Houston. She would watch American Bandstand and TV soap operas, while doing the chores around the house. There was a large collection of big band music record albums. She worked as an assistant editor for a local newspaper at one time. She was known for her beautiful handwriting and spelling skills.

Mavis enjoyed travel to Florida, California, Mexico and the islands of the Caribbean. Being a grandmother was a complete joy to her, and she fully enjoyed watching 3 beautiful grandkids grow up, with special fun times during Christmas and at the backyard pool. She always enjoyed having at least one dog around the house and they were truly spoiled.

During the latter part of her life, she endured a fire and a flood to her residences that caused hardship and temporary relocation at an advanced age.

She was close to her family, especially her sister and best friend Lois. Mavis was a charming and beautiful woman with an impeccable appearance before her health problems took over. We will always remember her. Rest in peace.

She will be placed with her husband Richard Charles Seeger on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 10:45am at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
