Milton Maurice Powell, a resident of Tomball, Texas, was born on December 6, 1929, in Freeport, Brazoria County, Texas, to Bert L. Powell, a laborer from Comanche County, Texas, and Pauline Augusta Hesseltine Powell, a homemaker from Abilene, Texas. Maurice passed from this life on earth at Saint Luke's Hospital at The Vintage, in Houston, Texas, at 12:33 PM on Monday, June 18th, 2018.

He is survived by three sons and their wives, Larry David and Kathleen (Kathy) of Mill Creek, Washington; Mark Lyndon and Pamela (Pam) of Austin, Texas, and Scott Andrew and Susan (Suzi) of Kingwood, Texas; as well as five grandchildren, Kelly and her husband James (Jim), Kyla and her husband Robert (Bob), Kelsy and her husband (Barrett), Marci and her husband Sean, and Joshua; and eight great-grandchildren, Emma, Ezra, Colin, Naia, Caden, Connor, Zoe and Harper; and one brother, Foy Powell and his wife Joyce, of Longview, Texas; and Doris' sister, Brenda Dunnahoe of Tomball, Texas, who was like his own daughter.

He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 64 years, Doris Nell Powell; his father, Bert L. Powell, his mother, Pauline A. Powell, his oldest brother, Bert Jr., and older brother, Kenneth.

He became a Christian, being baptized at the age of 14 in the Old Brazos River, in Freeport, Texas. He attended Abilene Christian College with his older brother, Kenneth, in 1947. He began to enjoy the classes in Bible, and later received his degree in biblical history. He and Doris moved to Northern California, near Redding, in 1957, to do "missionary work," where he preached, as well as taught Bible classes, in several small churches.

Maurice had a full life and many adventures, living and working over the years in Texas, California, and Washington State. He served as an elder and teacher in several churches, including South Houston and Kleinwood. He and his wife, Doris, were instrumental in the formative years of various congregations, and sought to be anchors of faith wherever they lived and worked. Maurice will be fondly remembered as a gentle, patient, and kind father and husband who loved God and his family, and was unselfish in his concern for others, as well as a playful grandfather with a twinkle in his eye.

His body will be buried at Woodland Cemetery, with his wife, Doris, in Kirvin, Texas.

There will be a memorial service at the Kleinwood Church of Christ on Saturday, June 23rd, 2018, at 2:00 PM.
