Matthew Stephen Shields was born on June 22, 1955 in Houston, Texas to J W and Ivyl Leovys Shields.  He passed away at his home, in Stagecoach, Texas, on July 12, 2026.  He was preceded in death by his parents, JW and Ivyl Leovys, and his sister Deretha Welch.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose, son, Seth Shields and wife Lacy, son Zach Shields, granddaughter Charlotte Belle Shields, sister Celinda Sackett and husband Greg, brother-in-law, Ronnie Herzog and wife Vickie, brother-in-law Ricky Welch, and numerous other friends and family members.

Steve was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He graduated from Klein High School in 1974.  He married his wife, Rose on September 6, 1974.  He was a longtime employee of Harris County Road and Bridge and has many lifelong friends from his days there.  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his Harley, and visiting as many Texas State Parks with his family and friends as possible.

Visitation will be at Klein Funeral home in Tomball, Texas on Wednesday, July 15th from 5-8 PM.  Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 16th at 10 AM at the funeral home.  A private family burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Steve's name to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Wardens.
