Obituary

Matthew "Matt" Mitchener

From childhood Matt lead a life full of spunk and energy.  He kept his mom, Ruby and his father, Bill, on their toes!  They never knew what he was going to pull or what the day would have in store for them.  If you knew Matt you knew he never outgrew that.  Matt met the love of his life Shannon, and in true Matt fashion decided to surprise her with enlisting in the Army, and moving them to Virginia.  While stationed in Virginia Matt battled Cancer and was transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.  Shannon visited with Matt every weekend during his treatment.  Matt returned to Virginia after his treatment, shortly after Matt returned to Virginia Shannon had a surprise of her own!  They were expecting their first child, Faith.  In true military fashion Matt, Shannon and Faith moved to Hawaii, where Matt continued with his antics, jokes and pranks!  Again, Shannon had a surprise of her own for him, they were expecting their second child, Brooklynn! After 5 years in Hawaii, Matt, Shannon, Faith and Brooklynn returned home to Texas.  To continue the trend, Shannon once again surprised Matt with their third and final daughter, Ruby.  Thank goodness they didn't live in all 50 states!  Matt was a "girl dad" he loved every minute of it, from play time at home, to dancing around in the living room, and taking them swimming, his girls were his world.

Matt loved to poke and prod Shannon just to irritate her ~ he would look at her and say "Woman" as he'd put his arm around her and smile.

During his time in the Army Matt earned numerous awards to include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service, Global War on Terrorism Service, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Deployment Ribbon just to name a few.

Matt was born April 11, 1980 in Alameda, California and passed away June 24, 2023 in Magnolia, Texas.  He is proceeded in death by his father William "Bill" Mitchener, brother's Sean Heidrich and Micah Mitchener.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Shannon Renea Mitchener, daughters, Faith, Brooklynn & Ruby, step-sons Colby and Ryan Johnson, grandson, Jax Johnson, mother and stepfather Ruby and Mike McKee, stepmother Martha Mitchener, stepsister Brandy McCann and numerous nieces and nephews.

Matt left his mark on this world.  He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Honorary Pallbearers are Todd Brown, Pohai Pace & Rick Moore
