Matilda was born on June 15th, 1982, at Manhyia in Kumasi, Ghana. Born to Ernestina Manu and Joseph Kwame Appiah, Matilda was the third of their five children. Education was important to Matilda from a very young age. She dreamed of becoming a successful Doctor and took her studies very seriously.
Matilda attended Elementary and Junior High School at K.O. Methodist located in Kumasi. In 1997, her mother's brother Mr. Eric Oppong Agyare came to visit from the USA and took a keen interest in Matilda, and how she lit up every room she stepped in.
A year later, at the age of 14, her uncle Eric Oppong-Agyare, along with his wife Jannice adopted Matilda and took her to the United States. Matilda was warmly welcomed by their six (6) other children, who she grew to love and to be known as their older sister.
Matilda continued her High School studies and graduated from Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, GA. She started her collegiate career at Georgia Perimeter College, and moved to Houston, Texas, to get married to her loving Husband, Mr. Aaron Kankam. In Houston, Matilda continued with her education and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) at Mid-Western University, and went on to complete a Masters Degree in Nursing at Walden University to become a Nurse Practitioner.
Matilda was a Loving, Caring, and Supportive wife. She was a devout Christian, and a Presbyterian. She was truly the epitome of Proverbs 31. She was selfless, and always went above and beyond for her loved ones; She was a giver, as many would describe her.
Her loving spirit was felt by all close to her, and she could light up a room with her presence alone; that was her gift. Matilda will be so happy to see loved ones come together to celebrate her life.
Matilda was a hardworking, respectful, caring, and loving person.
Rest in Perfect Peace Matilda!
