Obituary

Mary Claire Winter, Fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the age of 87.

Mary was born on July 27, 1935, to Bernadine and Otto Steger in St. Louis, MO. After Mary graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1953, she went on to study at Brown's Business College. From there, Mary took a job at D'Arcy Advertising, where she worked for about three years.

In February 1957, Mary wed James Winter and went on to have five children, James Jr., Mary Susan, Sherri, Laurie and Michael.

Mary will be remembered for the strong devotion to her Catholic faith and the deep love for her family. Mary was very active in Girl Scouts, school activities, and her church. Mary was an avid golfer, loved to sew and crochet, fish and travel. Mary served her community through several volunteer organizations including Parents Against Drug Abuse (PADA), Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), The Assistance League of Montgomery, several area hospitals and local schools.

Beloved wife of James L. Winter. Proud mother of five, James (Mary) Winter, Mary Susan (Mike) Matula, Sherri Holtgrieve, Laurie deBlanc, and Michael Winter; Dear Grandmother of eight, Kristina, Kelley (Travis), Kevin, Ryan, Aaron (Katie), Christina (Billy), Lauren (Ryan), and Haley (David); and Great Grandmother to six, Kimberly, Jaxon, Beau, Luke, Karoline and Raelyn; and Dear sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, niece and friend to many.

Preceded in death by her husband James, daughter Laurie deBlanc, parents Bernadine and Otto Steger, and brother Charles Steger.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 8227 County Road 205, Plantersville, Texas 77363 at 10:30am on Saturday December 10, 2022 with Father Ed Kucera officiating. Immediately following, all are invited to a reception at St. Mary's Parish Hall. Interment will be held at Klein Memorial Park, Pinehurst, TX at 1PM on Monday December 12, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mary to the American Cancer Society, Assistance League of Montgomery County, and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas.
