Obituary

Mary Juanita Chambers Townsend went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 27, 2020.  She was 86 years old, born on October 2, 1933, in Donna, Texas.  Mary was the daughter of Ed Chambers and Ona Yaws Chambers.  Mary grew up in Donna and in 1952 graduated from Donna High School.  In 1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Kirkby Gran Townsend.  Married for 59 years, they were the proud parents of four boys. From 1960 to 1984, Mary resided in Los Fresnos, Texas.  During this time, she was busy raising four boys, teaching high school girls in Sunday School, substitute teaching and for many years was the Los Fresnos City Administrator.  In 1984 Mary and Gran moved to Spring, Texas.

Mary and Gran lived in Spring for the next 33 years until Gran passed away in 2012.  While in Spring Mary and Gran were active members of Spring Baptist Church and hosted numerous holiday family reunions.  At Spring Baptist, Mary served the senior adult community, was involved in various widows' ministries and enjoyed singing in the choir.  In 2017 Mary moved to Beeville, Texas due to declining health.

Mary was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother/great grandmother and cherished friend to many. She is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law; Kirkby and Janna, Beeville, Texas, Rick and Charlotte, San Antonio, Texas, Steve and Terri, Spring, Texas, and Andy and Theresa, Cedar Park, Texas, 12 grandchildren; Kendra, Nathan, Matthew, Scott, Bryan, Lori, Tammy, Christopher, Taylor, Abby, Anderson and Adeline and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Ed Chambers and his wife, Sue and many very dear nieces and nephews.  Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years and sister Penny Chambers Weyman.
