Obituary

Mary Beth (Ussery) Sowell passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 in Houston, Texas at the age of 93.
Mary Beth was born December 2, 1923 in Luling, Texas on the family farm. She attended Southwest Texas State Teacher's College and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in 1945. She married the love of her life, Thomas Wynns Sowell in 1947 and was married 50+ years. They raised their three children, Roger Evans Sowell, Dennis Dave Sowell and Susan Elizabeth (Sowell) van der Walt in Houston, Texas. After Tom's retirement, they moved to Kerrville, Texas where they lived for many years. After Tom's passing in 2002, Mary Beth moved back to Houston in 2003 and ended up three houses down from her daughter and family. She lived independently, loving exercise and visiting with her neighbors. She was able to enjoy dinner most Sunday nights with her family.
Mary Beth is preceded in death by her parents Van Mastin Ussery and Olyve Myrtle Cochran Ussery, her husband Thomas Wynns Sowell and 3 siblings, Olivia, Glenn and Van F. She is survived by her sons Roger and Dennis (wife Ann) and daughter Susan (husband Barry), grandchildren Bart, Kent, Megan, Shaun, James, and Daniel, brother Dave Ussery, cousin and childhood friend Abner Ussery (wife Vona), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 am at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Rd, Houston, TX 77024.
