Mary Alice Norfleet's Obituary
Mary Alice Norfleet, of Spring, Texas, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, entered into eternal rest on December 10, 2016. She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on November 30, 1942, to Edward Bernard and Truby Joy (McKenzie) Kohl. As the wife of a Naval Officer she traveled extensively and lived in many locations during her adult life, although she ultimately resided for 19 years in Tarboro, North Carolina, after her husband's retirement and before moving to Spring, Texas. She was a graduate from Edgecombe Community College after obtaining an AB degree with Honors. As a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, in Spring, Texas, she was active in numerous church ministries, including the Blue Army, Compassionate Cooks, and the Altar Society. She also very much enjoyed being a member of a Catholic Women's group, "Companions on the Way". She enjoyed decorating, gardening, piano, politics, and providing Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for as many friends and family that were able to attend. She was a master knitter and loved to knit many varied types of apparel for all her family and friends and was a member of a knitters group that donated their items to charity.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ashley Curtis Norfleet; her three children, Christine Marie Norfleet of Sterling, Virginia, Ashley Curtis Norfleet II of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Sheppard Strudwick Norfleet of Sterling, Virginia; two grandchildren, Ashleigh Nicole Norfleet-Carlisle and Jeremiah S. Norfleet; sister, Joy Bernadette Hartmann of Spring, Texas; brother, Dr. Alan Kohl of Helotes, Texas; and all of their respective spouses.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the Rosary to immediately follow at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, TX 77379. The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 19, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 26101 Spring Stuebner Road, Spring, TX 77389, followed by a luncheon in the Parish Life Center. Interment will take place at 2:15 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
The Family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Luke's Foundation (please see link to the left). St. Luke's in Houston saved Mary's life in 2000 and their Heart Center has provided her loving and wonderful care since 2005 when she moved from North Carolina to Texas and we will be ever grateful for their support.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
