Obituary

Mary Ann McConnell, age 88, of Tomball, TX, passed away in the early morning hours on July 22, 2026.  She was surrounded by her loving daughters in her final days.

Mary Ann was born on June 11th, 1938, in Portland, Arkansas, to the late Thomas Lee Hatley and Willie Mae (Winters) Hatley. She graduated from Arkansas A&M (now University of Arkansas at Monticello).   After college, she began work at a local papermill where she met her husband, Billy Hugh McConnell.  They married in the fall of 1963, and later moved to Houston, TX in 1968.

Mary attended First Baptist of Tomball and later made her spiritual home at North Oaks Baptist Church where she was an active member of Bible Study groups.  She took great joy in her family.  She also loved to sew, cross-stitch, needlepoint, candle wicking, and was an avid reader.   She made clothes including formalwear pieces for her children, family and friends.

Her husband, Bill was a private pilot, and they lived in Houston and Slidell, Louisiana.  In Louisiana she worked as a church-school secretary.  Upon returning to Texas, she worked for Klein ISD in the secretarial office.  Later, she also worked at Cloth World as a fabric specialist.  Mary would also later work for Star Furniture as a back office assistant.

In her recent years, she loved playing with her grandkids, eating out at restaurants, electronic cross-stitch, reading and spending time with family and pets.

She is survived by:

Her daughters, Kimberly Winkelmann, and husband Daryl Winkelmann of Tomball, TX, and Patricia  McConnell  of Tomball, TX.
Sister:   Christene Sanders of West Monroe, LA
Grandchildren:  Meganne, Mason, Matthew
Numerous Nephews and a Niece
She was preceded in death by her:

Husband : Billy Hugh McConnell

Parents:  Thomas Lee Hatley and Willie Mae Hatley

Siblings:  Virginia Sanders of Lebanon, Missouri; Thomas Hatley, Jr. of Monticello, AR; Roger Hatley of Monticello, AR.

The Funeral Visitation: Sunday, July 26th, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W Main St, Tomball TX.
Funeral Service: Monday, July 27th, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W Main St, Tomball TX., with Minister Sammy Crosby officiating.
Graveside service and interment to follow at Klein Memorial Park Cemetery on S.H. 249.
