Mary Leana Laing, a loving and devoted mother, passed away on December 1, 2024, at the age of 76. Born August 5, 1948, in Nassau, Bahamas, she was a beacon of strength and guidance for her children and family.

Mary dedicated her life to her family. She always had a listening ear, a warm embrace, and a gentle hand to guide her children. Her unwavering love and support were the foundation upon which we built our lives.

Mary deeply loved music, often finding solace and joy in dancing and singing to everything from Maverick City Music, CeCe Winans, and Taylor Swift. Her faith in God was unwavering, and she found comfort in her spiritual beliefs. She lived by Isiah 41:10: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."(KJV)

Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Hubert Gibson, and her daughter, Paula Clemons.  She is survived by her devoted sisters, Rosalind Neilen, Barbara Brown, and Rosanne Gibson; her loving children, Brenda Gibson, Shelia Lancaster, Rasan Byrd, Rashad Byrd, Josef Byrd, Johanna Byrd Moye, Lorraine Byrd, Leanna Byrd, Harold Byrd, and Robert Byrd, her nineteen cherished grandchildren, and ten adored great-grandchildren.

A service will take place on December 16th. Pastor Stanley L. Scott II will lead her service.

Mary Leana Laing will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. The legacy of her love and strength will live on in our hearts.
