Our hearts are saddened as we announce that Mary Lee Hughes Ellis of Magnolia, Texas left this world and went to join her family waiting for her in Heaven on May 22, 2023.
Mary was born in the small town of Cash, Arkansas to Denver and Lanie Hughes on May 28th 1932. At the age of 10, Mary's mother passed away and she and her siblings were separated and raised by various family members and friends. Despite this, Mary remained close to her siblings and enjoyed many family reunions through the years.
In 1956, Mary married Jerry Nathanial Wilson of Benton, Arkansas. They eventually left Arkansas and moved to Texas to raise their family. Together they had three children, Jerry Lee, Beth, and Natalie. After Jerry's untimely death in 1965, Jerry's best friend Omer William Ellis Jr., vowed to care for his friend's family. Eventually, they fell in love, married and another child, Oma Wilma was blessed on the couple. While Omer worked as a truck driver, Mary stayed home and raised their children in Jacinto City, Texas.
When Omer retired, they moved from their home in Jacinto City, to their beloved home in Magnolia, Texas. Here they made many friends and enjoyed their peaceful retirement with an occasional trip to hear their favorite Blue Grass music.
Mary's only goal on this earth was to be the best wife, mother and grandmother possible. She never thought of the personal sacrifices she made over the years as a burden. She considered her family a gift and a blessing to be treasured. To the very end of her life, her only concern was for her family.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Denver and Lanie Hughes; sisters, Mabel Polk, Virginia Miller, Clara McKoin and Lorene Parmelee; brother, Olan Hughes; husbands Jerry Nathaniel Wilson and Omer William Ellis, Jr.; son, Jerry "Bubba" Wilson, and dear sweet friend Lydia Pringle. She is survived by her daughters, Beth Kellett, Natalie Cramer (Scott) and Wilma Ellis; granddaughter, Stephanie Hahn (Andrew); grandsons, Stephen Mitchell, Hunter Cramer and Conner Cramer; great grandchildren Riley and Lily Hahn; brother Leon Hughes, dear friends, Curtis & Vickie Ferguson, Barbara Gill and her soul brother, Frosty.
Mary's ashes will be laid to rest next to her husband, Omer, at the Old Waverly family cemetery in New Waverly.
