Obituary

Mary Ann Fortier (Raden), age 81, of Houston, TX, passed away on September 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Ann was born October 28, 1942, in Melrose, MN, and shortly after moved with her family to Puyallup, WA. She graduated from Franklin Pierce High School and then went on to earn her RN at St. Joseph's School of Nursing.

After graduating nursing school her wanderlust took her to live and work as a nurse in Hawaii, Oregon, Germany (where she met her future husband), and California.

Mary Ann married Agustin "Gus" Fortier on April 11, 1970. Gus' military and civilian careers took them to Newport News, Long Island, New Orleans, and Houston. They were married until Gus passed on June 1, 2011.

Mary Ann worked as a nurse for over 40 years and in retirement was very active in the Prince of Peace Catholic Community which she joined in 1987.  Throughout the years she was an eucharistic minister, volunteered with the youth ministry, Art & Environment committee, prayer blanket ministry, the food bank, and was a vital member of the Pastoral Care ministry where she helped facilitate funeral reception services.

Between her family, nursing, and her work with the church, she spread God's love to all she encountered.

She is survived by her children, Carmen Fortier, Kevin Fortier (wife Eva), and Dian Gibson (husband Jason); her beloved grandchildren, Eva, Kyle, and June; her sister Viola Marcoe; her brother Charles "Archie" Raden; her sisters-in-law Sharon Raden, Dodie Raden and Lynette Raden; her brother-in-law Willie Fortier; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mary Ann in death were her parents, William and Frances Raden; siblings Edward Raden, James Raden, Ione Raden, Kenneth Raden, Linda Raden, and Richard Raden; brother-in-law Harold Marcoe; sister-in-law Colleen Raden; niece Angie Raden; and nephew Todd Raden.

The family invites you to join them for a Rosary at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065.  A Funeral Mass followed by a reception will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 19222 Hwy 249, Houston, TX 77070, on Friday, September 20th at 10:30 am. A graveside service will be held at Houston National Cemetery on Monday, September 23, at 9:30 a.m., where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Gus.
