Obituary

Mary Ellen (May) Disney was born July 16, 1926, and passed away September 10, 2022, at 96 years of age. She is survived by 3 children, Derek, Peter, and Jackie, 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way. May was born in Cork, Ireland. As a child, her family moved to live in London England yet remained fiercely proud of their Irish heritage. May's mother would go to Cork to have her babies and return to London. This resulted in May's younger sister thinking that all babies came from Ireland! Fond memories of family dinners include her Irish stew, Shepherd's Pie, fish and chips, and soda bread - this was a meat and potatoes family, and these continue to be family favorites.

In 1945 she met the love of her life, Chris Disney, and was married in 1946. The family emigrated to Texas in 1963, and in 1976 became citizens of the USA. This was a momentous occasion and the family never looked back. May worked at several jobs in Houston including: running a bakery, working at Alief Independent School District, and volunteering at the Tomball Nursing home as helping others was her passion. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Irish "Eire Club" in Houston which then led to her becoming the first female president. May was also part of the Irish Dancing group and participated in many functions and parades in Houston. She loved being with family and friends, dancing, singing and storytelling. One family friend called her a "spark plug" because of her vibrant personality. May had a profound impact on her family as she forgave quickly, shared her love unconditionally, and always made time for her children and grandchildren.

"Our Irish mothers are precious gifts from God. So together let's celebrate their selfless, unconditional love." A Celebration of Life will be held at the Tomball Community Center on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
