Mary Eva Thrasher Copeland passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Brookville Mississippi; however, she lived in Houston, Texas for over seventy years. Mary's life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and generosity. Above all, she was a devoted Christian woman whose faith guided every step of her life. She did not simply speak of her beliefs—she lived them daily through quiet acts of kindness, unwavering compassion, and a deep commitment to caring for others.
Her family was the center of her world. Mary loved them deeply and expressed that love in all she did. She was a constant source of comfort and strength, always ensuring that those around her felt cared for and never alone. If she was needed, she was there—without hesitation.
Mary had a generous heart and gave freely of herself to others. Whether family, friends, or strangers, she had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved.
She took great pride in being a mother and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting aroma of her cooking. An exceptional cook, she brought people together around her table, where meals became lasting expressions of love and connection.
Mary also had a deep appreciation for beauty. She found joy in the beautiful things in life, and she reflected that beauty herself—not only outwardly, but in her spirit, her kindness, and her love for others.
While her passing leaves a profound void, her family finds comfort in the many memories she created and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and in the family she cherished.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Barry L. Copeland, Sr.; her children, Deborah Brossman and husband Pherl, Barry Copeland, Jr.; and wife Karen, her six cherished grandchildren, Greg Fodell and wife Rita, Julia, Olivia, Payten and Bari Noel Copeland, and Alissa Walker. She also had six great grandchildren – Carter Barnett, Fay, Gregory, and Mary Fodell; Madden, Bodie and Laken Walker. Mary's siblings, Butch Thrasher and wife Billie; Alice Riha and Husband Ellery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mildred Thrasher; her sister, Carol Harris; and her brother, Ralph Thrasher.
