MARTHA VIRGINIA HALLIBURTON

June 20, 1928 - June 1, 2021

The universal memory when reflecting on Martha has been her smile and her laughter. She had the ability to make every person she came across feel special. Each and every one of us was her favorite. She loved life, she loved people, but most of all she loved her family. She made it a point to celebrate it all during the nearly 93 years she graced us with her presence.

Martha Virginia Hall was born in Wichita, Kansas, the youngest of four children to Benjamin Ivy Hall and Lola Roberts Hall. Her three older siblings were brothers James Robert Hall, Benjamin Ivy Hall, Jr., and Harold Hall. The family lived in Kansas City, Missouri until Martha turned 14.

In 1942 the family moved to Pinellas, Florida due to her father's health until his passing in 1944. After burial in Wartrace, Tennessee they moved to Denver, Colorado. By then her brothers were pilots in the Army Air Corps. She was very proud of all three. When she was seventeen all three of her brother came to Denver. She made them wear their uniforms and escort her around town. She recounted this many times especially the part about how jealous her girlfriends got.

After high school, Martha, then known as "Marty", attended The University of Colorado.  On June 15, 1949, she married her first husband, John Candor McRoberts. Her son, Michael was born in 1952 followed by her son, David in 1954.

She moved her family to Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1960, after her divorce from John. Here she began her government career by joining the Atomic Energy Commission. Soon after, the family moved to Houston, Texas where she started her career at NASA.

In 1963, she married Thomas Paul 'Tom' Halliburton, and moved to Irving, Texas for one year before they returned to Houston. In the late 1960's she rejoined NASA where she worked until retirement. Martha was a proud member of the sixties chicks, a group of female Apollo era NASA employees.

Martha had a lifelong passion for singing and the piano. In Houston she sang in the choir at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She also enjoyed being in the chorus of The Houston Grand Opera. After moving to Nassau Bay, she joined St. Thomas Episcopal Church and sang in the choir. She was a proud member of The Order of The Daughters of The King.

After Tom's death in 1982 she started traveling. She loved going on cruises with her friends and in her early 70s decided to obtain her travel agent certification so she could get a free cruise if enough of her friends booked through her - which of course they did. Over the years she set foot on six continents and countless countries.

She is survived by her sons Michael and David, her four grandchildren (Heather, Erin, Matthew and Lisa} and her five great grandchildren (Katy, Fletcher, Kendall, Elise and Cora}.
