On Sunday, March 21, 2021, Mark Ramsey Jones passed away at the age of 27 after a long and arduous battle with Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis and Stroke-like Episodes (MELAS), a mitochondrial disorder. Mark was a beloved son, brother uncle and grandson. He was born on July 14, 1993 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and graduated from Klein High School in 2011.
Mark is survived by his parents, Terry Dwayne Jones and Patricia (Patti) McCormick Jones, his sister, Erin Leigh Jones, his brother, Stephen Bullard Jones and wife, Kristen Rieger Jones, his nephew Dylan Frederick Jones, his niece Layla Bess Jones, his grandmother Barbara (Sunnye) Dykes Jones, his aunt, Jan McCormick, his uncle, Dr. Ricky L. Jones and wife Freda Jones, his uncle, C. Dennis Jones and wife Kimberly (Kim) Jones, and his uncle Jerry W. Jones and wife Laura Jones. His aunt, Susan McCormick Schepp, predeceased Mark.
His cousins, great cousins, great aunts and friends who will miss him dearly also survive Mark.
Mark was truly one of the strongest people you would ever know. Even though stricken with MELAS at the early age of ten and a half, he never complained or asked "why me." He always went along with everything and loved to be with his family, even if it meant sleeping in an RV at an LSU football game; he just wanted to be where everyone else was.
Mark loved "Weird Al" Yankovic, Futurama, The Simpsons, Ghostbusters and Family Guy. So in the immortal words of Peter from Family Guy:
"Wait a second. That's it! They can't make a dead guy pay his bill. All I gotta do is write "deceased" right here where it says name and where it says sex, I'll write "no thanks, I'm dead". It's bulletproof."
His family will dearly miss Mark.
In lieu of flowers, Mark's family requests that donations be made to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, 8085 Saltsburg Road, Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15239. The following link can be used for such purpose: https://www.classy.org/fundraiser/3179024
