Marjorie Nell Sigler White

Marjorie never met a stranger. She is the second-youngest of seven siblings, born in Grant, La on July 21, 1922. She grew up in the small paper mill town of Elizabeth, La. There, she met her handsome husband, Bernard, working behind Finke's soda fountain. They fell in love, soon married and had two children, a son, Philip and a daughter, Nina.

Job opportunities drew the couple to Lake Charles, La., in the mid-40s.This busy wife and mother worked full-time at Sears Roebuck in Accounting while raising two children and caring for her home. An opportunity to open a business of their own presented itself in the mid-60s and they moved back to Elizabeth, where together they owned and operated the B&N Dairy Bar for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren, cooking, canning fruits, making jelly, sewing and tending to her greenhouse filled with plants. After selling the B&N, she worked as a bank teller until her retirement July 1987.

After her beloved husband of 55 years passed in 1993, she sold her beautiful country place in Elizabeth, and moved back to Lake Charles to reconnect with old friends and her wonderful church family at Trinity Baptist. Strong willed and still determined to be independent, she lived alone until one sunny day in April 2012, when she climbed a ladder to clean the leaves from her gutter. On that day, she fell, breaking her hip. After the accident, this Louisiana Belle and Matriarch of the White clan, moved to Houston to be near her son, Philip and his wife, Pat, and her four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who all showered her with love and attention. In no time, she became a full-fledged Texan.

This proud great-great-grandmother has always had an abundance of unconditional love for her four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and soon to be eleven great-great grandchildren. She is affectionately known to each of them as, "Hunun."  She will be greatly missed by her big and loving family.
