Marie Malay Dabney passed away peacefully with her husband and son by her side on April 19, 2017, at the age of 69. Marie was born on April 4, 1948, in Fort Lee, Virginia; and is preceded in death by her parents William J. and Ione Malay of Nashua, NH / Orangeburg, SC; and brother Bill Malay of Atlanta, Georgia.
Growing up, Marie spent some time in Verdun, France, prior to being raised in Nashua, NH. She graduated from Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing at Dartmouth College. While working as a Registered Nurse in New York City at Cornell Hospital in coronary care, she met Jeff Dabney in Hanover, NH who would become her loving husband and have his life greatly enriched by her beauty and love of life. After marriage in Nashua, NH, the Dabneys began their life together in Atlanta, GA and then to Houston, TX which became home base since 1973. Marie loved the Houston life style and continued working as a Registered Nurse at Diagnostic Clinic and Houston Northwest Medical Center until a short stint in Orangeburg, SC followed by a move to England.
Marie had a complete love of and interest in people and continued making great friends at every place she went. In England, she and her husband were blessed with the birth of their only child, William Jefferson Dabney, in 1978. Marie's love of people, travel, and European history resulted in numerous trips throughout all of England, France, and Italy prior to return to home Houston in 1979. Marie immediately made very dear, special and lasting friendships, which have continued to the present. Marie's love and passion for family, friends, and people radiated all around her. Marie was again blessed by the marriage of son, Jeff, to Michelle Brooks and the birth of Marie's only grandchild, Samantha Leigh Dabney, "Sam", in 2006. Marie became 'Sam's Mam" and cherished the very close relationship with her beloved granddaughter and her parents. Each extended weekend was true pleasure with time spent at family activities, shopping, traveling and living with additional close friends at her weekend home and community on Lake Conroe. Marie made a positive impact on many people's lives and truly enjoyed spending time, and staying involved with activities and adventures of her immediate and extended family and dear friends. Marie will be greatly missed by many but her legacy and teaching of values and true concern for others will be ongoing.
Marie is survived by her loving husband, M. Jefferson Dabney; son, William Jefferson Dabney; daughter-in-law, Michelle Brooks Dabney; special grand-daughter, Samantha Leigh Dabney; and beloved cousins and relatives in Atlanta, GA; Sarasota, FL; Highlands, NC; Dallas, TX; and best friends in Houston, TX; and New Orleans, LA.
