Marian Stuart Cralle Anderson, known as "Sukey" to her family, died peacefully at the home of her elder son, Stuart A. Anderson, in Magnolia, TX, on Saturday July 30, 2022, at the age of 97.

Marian was the fourth of five children born to Dr. and Mrs. Walter O. Cralle. Marian was born on September 6, 1924, at a very unique place, the Biltmore Estate's own onsite hospital in Ashville, NC. Her father was teaching at the Biltmore Estate Farm School at the time. Marian's mother, also named Marian, had become good friends with Mrs. Vanderbilt. The parents had planned to go to the hospital in Ashville when Marian was born, but Mrs. Vanderbilt insisted that the couple have their baby there, at the estate's own hospital.

Marian's parents moved their family to Springfield, MO in 1925, where her father, Dr. Walter O. Cralle, became the head of the Sociology and Economics Departments and also the head tennis coach for Missouri State University. Marian and her siblings grew up in Springfield, where she attended the Greenwood Laboratory School, affiliated with and located on the campus of Missouri State University.

After graduation from high school, Marian followed in the footsteps of her father, mother, and three older siblings and enrolled and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She majored in Architectural Engineering. Her Grandfather, Stratton D. Brooks, formerly the Superintendent of Boston Schools, had served as the third President of the University of Oklahoma (1912- 1923) and the eleventh President of the University of Missouri (1924-1931).

Marian became a pioneer for women in engineering. She was one of the first women engineers to graduate from OU. She was honored by President Boren at the 2016 homecoming game with Kansas University as the last surviving grandchild of President Brooks and was also honored for her achievement in becoming one of the first women engineers in the history of the University. She laid the foundation for other women engineers in the years to come.

After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1945, she soon married Emmett A. Anderson, Jr.  Her husband, Emmett, had just returned from WWII, having served in the U.S. Army's 82 ^nd Airbourne and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge where he earned Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. Marian and Emmett had two sons, Stuart Arthur Anderson and Bruce Gavin Anderson.

Marian worked as an engineer throughout her career for the City of Cleburne and private engineering firms in Dallas, Texas. She took drafting jobs as well because women as engineers were not widely recognized at the time.

After a long career, she retired from Rockwell International / Collins, formerly Collins Radio (founded by Arthur Collins in Richardson, TX and Cedar Rapids, IA). She was in charge of civil engineering for all sites and buildings for the corporation. She also engineered some of the features in the Collins family residence in Dallas, TX.

Marian is preceded in death by her mother, Marian Stuart Brooks Cralle; her father, Dr. Walter O. Cralle; husband, Emmett A. Anderson, Jr.; sisters, Theodocia Cralle Prickett, Marcia Cralle Cannon Hames; brothers, Stratton Brooks Cralle and Walter O. Cralle, Jr.

Marian is survived by her two sons, Stuart A. Anderson of Magnolia, TX and Bruce G. Anderson of McKinney, TX; and daughter-in-law, Karen Byler Anderson of McKinney, TX.

She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, and their spouses: Bob and Jackie Prickett, Alan and Adair Prickett, Mark and Jeanine Prickett, Brooks and Melissa Cannon, Robert and Becky Weatherford, Nancy and Dannie LeGrange, Melissa Kimbrough, Sherry Hodges, Susan and Carl McCabe, Sylvia Pate, and Cathy and Phil Jones. In addition, she is survived by many great and great-great nephews and nieces.
