Obituary

Maria Umana Escobar, 69, passed away after a courageous three-year battle with colon cancer.

Maria was born on October 12, 1956, in La Unión, El Salvador, to Domingo Umana and Eusebia Umana. She grew up in La Unión and later migrated to the United States at the age of 25 in search of new opportunities. She married the love of her life, Alejandro Escobar, and together they built a life centered on family, love, and resilience.

Maria was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She had a heart big enough to love everyone she met and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her kindness, strength, and generosity touched countless lives. She found joy in caring for others, had a deep love for animals, and shared a special passion for food.

Those who knew Maria will remember her not only for her unwavering strength but also for her welcoming spirit and the way she made everyone feel like family.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Alejandro Escobar; her children, Jaime Umana and Evelyn Velasco; her six brothers and four sisters; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father, Domingo Umana, and her niece, Marina Umana.
