Maria Irene Páez nació en el Peñón, Colombia el 15 de enero de 1951, y partió a la presencia del Señor en Houston, Texas el 2 de marzo de 2022. Su esposo, Rodrigo Bejarano, y sus hijas, Liliana Talani, Angie Talani, Jennifer Heflin, y Stephany Moore, mantendrán su legado.

Irene fue una cuidadora de tiempo completo. Su niñez no fue fácil, pero ella era resiliente y usó su dificultad para convertirse en una maravillosa mujer que sirvió al Señor, amando a otros con amor sacrificial. Ella podía hacer sentir mejor a cualquiera preparándole una comida – ¡aún si no tenía hambre! Toda su vida se dedicó a cuidar a quienes la rodeaban. Incluso a una corta edad, fue proveedora de sus hermanos para asegurarse que tuvieran una vida mejor. Sus hijas fueron su mayor orgullo y alegría. Las amó profundamente y estaba muy orgullosa de cada una, estuvo a su lado apoyándolas y alentándolas en cada etapa de sus vidas. Ella y su esposo formaron el mejor equipo de abuelos. Siempre estuvo involucrada en la vida de cada uno de sus diez nietos, de forma personal con cada uno para asegurarse de que cada uno supiera que era importante para ella. No era raro en ella dejar todo lo que estaba hacienda para cuidarlos, incluso si eso significaba volar a otro país.

Durante los últimos seis meses de la vida de Irene, su familia recibió el regalo de pasar tiempo de calidad mientras cuidaban de ella en el hospital. Vieron milagros suceder como respuesta a sus oraciones de pasar más tiempo con ella, Irene contra todo pronóstico batalló por 185 días. El Señor estuvo cerca de su corazón mientras perseveraba y se mantenía firme en la verdad del evangelio. Su amor por los demás era tan evidente que incluso en el hospital, ella continuó ayudando y cuidando a quienes la rodeaban. A menudo decía, "Si mi sufrimiento sirve para que otros puedan sanar sus relaciones y para que el amor abunde, entonces valdrá la pena".

Irene impactó muchas vidas, no solo por lo que hacía o decía, sino por quien era y cuan profundamente amaba a todas las personas como su Padre Celestial. Ella quería que todos sepan que las cosas materiales no son lo importante, sino el cómo usamos nuestro tiempo y como nos amamos unos a otros.

Maria Irene Paez was born in El Peñon, Colombia on January 15, 1951, and passed away in Houston, Texas on March 2, 2022.  She is survived by her husband, Rodrigo Bejarano, and her daughters, Liliana Talani, Angie Talani, Jennifer Heflin, and Stephany Moore.

Irene was a caretaker through and through.  Her childhood was difficult, but she was resilient and used her struggle to propel her into becoming an amazing woman who served the Lord by loving others sacrificially.  She would make anyone feel better by making them a meal – even if they weren't hungry!  The entirety of her life she took care of those around her.  Even from a young age, she provided for her siblings to ensure they would have a better life.  Her daughters were her biggest pride and joy.  She loved them deeply and was proud of each of them, supporting and encouraging them through every stage of life.  Her and her husband tag teamed to be the most wonderful grandparents.  She was very involved in the lives of each of her ten grandchildren, and she pursued them individually to make sure they knew that they mattered to her.  It was not rare for her to drop everything she was doing to care for one of them, including flying to a different country if necessary.

For the last six months of Irene's life, her family was gifted the opportunity to spend quality time with her as they cared for her in the hospital.  They saw miracles as they prayed for more time with her, and Irene beat all the odds and fought for 186 days.  The Lord was near to her heart as she persevered and stood on the truth of the gospel.  Her love for others was so evident that even in the hospital, she continued to help people and care for those around her.  She often said, "If my suffering serves for people to heal their relationships and for love to abound, then it will be worth it."

Irene impacted many lives, not only by what she did or said, but because of who she was and how deeply she loved all people like her Heavenly Father.  She wanted to make sure that every person learned about the importance of living a life with purpose.  She wanted people to know that material possessions are not what matter, but rather how we spend our time and how we love one another.
