Maria Guadalupe Calzada Hernandez, known to family and friends as "Lupe", passed
away on June 26, 2018, at the age of 73 years old after a long, courageous fight
with cancer.
Lupe's life will be cherished and remembered by her children, Sophia Hernandez, Jose
Cruz Hernandez Jr., and Daniel Hernandez. She is also survived by her grandchildren,
Matthew (Audrey) Hernandez, Jacob Hernandez, Nathan Hernandez, Caleb Hernandez and
Noah Calamaco.
Lupe was preceded in death by her mother Olivia Samples, her father Alonzo Calzada,
her husband, Jose Cruz Hernandez, and her brother, John Samples. She is survived by
her sisters and brother, Ninfa Garza, Linda (Joe Sr.) Martinez, Arturo (Dana)
Garcia, Mary (Gus Jr.) Valencia and Johanna (Daniel Rihel) Samples.
Lupe was born in Brownsville, Texas on March 27, 1945. Maria graduated from Harlingen
High School and later married the love of her life in 1970. They moved to Houston in
1976 where she worked in child-care. Maria's joys in life included spending time
with her children and grandchildren and playing cards with her sisters.
The viewing will be held at Klein Funeral Home & Memorial on Sunday, July 1st from
5-8 p.m. There will be a mass preceding the funeral on Monday, July 2nd at 11 a.m.
at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Gravesite service will be held at Klein Memorial
Park Cemetery.
