Maria Del Pilar Gonzalez de Castañon, 80, of Magnolia, TX, passed from this life on August 16, 2026. She was born on March 1, 1946 toVicente Gonzalez & Amparo Cervantez in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Maria Del Pilar Castañón, 80, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on August 16 th , 2026. Her last couple of days prior to passing were filled with her closest family members surrounding her sharing memories, speaking of the joy she brought to all those around her, and expressing immense love that will forever live on in her memory.

Maria was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to her mother, Amparo Cervantez, and her father, Vicente Gonzalez. Through her early childhood she took on the selfless role of being a caregiver to those she loved as she helped raise her 11 siblings. Caring for those around her came naturally to her, she never expected anything in return, it was her kindest act of love.

At the age of 19 she fell in love and married her husband of 60 years, Jesus Castañón Salazar. They went on to have six beautiful children together. In 1989, Maria and Jesus sacrificed their life in Mexico and immigrated to Houston, Texas to provide their family with opportunities they could only have dreamed of. Through their very humble lives they remained faithful Catholics knowing that the Heavenly Father would provide for them no matter what difficulties lied ahead.

Maria enjoyed the simplicities of life. She loved listening to classical Mexican music, cooking for others, playing loteria, people watching, attending gatherings, long talks on the phone or with neighbors, going out to eat with family, and any activity that involved being surrounded by those she loved.

Maria was stern but kind, hard-working, funny, loyal, understanding, and loving. She never turned her back on anybody that came to her for help, because of this she took the role of a second mother to many. She dedicated her entire life to ensuring those around her were always taken care of. She was and forever will be the foundation of the family she built.

Maria is survived by her husband Jesus Castañón, and her children Miguel Castañón, Sandra Aguirre, Mario Castañón, Sonia Castañón, Sara Castañón, and Susana Rivera. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Betsy, Jasmine, Rebekah, Antonio, Ruben, Miguel, Mitchelle, Marco, Margarita, Astrid, Diana, Daniel, Juan, Ashley, Jesus, German, and Arianna. Finally, she also leaves behind many other friends and family who will miss her dearly.

Maria Del Pilar Castañón changed many lives throughout her time on this earth. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on forever with our Heavenly Father, and that there is no more pain and suffering for her. She is whole once again, and one day they will be reunited once again.
