Margaret Catherine Muldoon

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Catherine Muldoon, 83, of Houston, Texas, announces her peaceful passing to her heavenly home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on September 17, 2024.

Margaret (Peg) was a loving, caring, and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Peg will be remembered by all for her acts of love, her gentle soul, and her service to her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and strength.

Peg, one of six children, was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to the parents of Carl and Anna Spindler. She and her brothers Carl and Ted and her sisters Romaine, Molly, and Christine were all very close. There were many long-distance phone calls between Texas and Pennsylvania over the years. Peg grew up in the Catholic Church and was a devoted churchgoer who had a great love for the Blessed Mother Mary, praying the rosary often. Additionally, Peg never wanted anyone to go hungry and generously gave to the Mercy Ministry at Prince of Peace to ensure those in need were taken care of.

Peg met the love of her life, James J. Muldoon in April of 1965. They were married eight months later on December 30, 1965. Once married, the adventure of military life began. Peg and Jim started as newlyweds in California and made their way to live in many places in the United States and Europe including Pennsylvania, Washington D.C, Georgia, Kansas, Texas, and Germany. Peg loved being an officer's wife and would host many parties no matter where they called home. Peg enjoyed the perks of military life, one of which was travel. She, Jim, and the girls explored many places in Europe. Peg was a world traveler and visited Jerusalem, Greece, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Holland, Germany, England, Scotland, and more.

Peg was mother to five daughters and grandmother to eleven grandchildren who knew her as Nanny. We all referred to her as Wonder Woman, and she taught us the value of resilience and hard work. Her daughters Ruth Ann, Mary Catherine, Kathleen, Jean Marie and Elizabeth are incredibly thankful for all the wisdom she instilled in them and the example she set of being a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend.

Nanny drove around her Irish green car with sporty license plates that proudly displayed "Nanny 11", for her eleven grandchildren: Daniel, Matthew, Lauren, Griffin, Colin, Molly, Erin, Cate, Ben, Izzy and Luca. Nanny loved her grandchildren and was immensely proud of them. As you entered her house, there was a sign that read "Grandchildren spoiled here," and they definitely were.

Peg was the baking queen, and her family could always find a special kind of treat. You would never be disappointed at what you would find. Iced Easter egg cakes, her annual lamb-shaped pound cake, peanut butter hearts, our favorite chocolate cake with baked frosting, apple dumplings, Christmas cookies of many varieties- Peg cultivated a sugar wonderland for every holiday and special occasion (and she even let us lick the spatula). Many of her children and grandchildren were inspired by her love of baking and carry on the tradition. The ones who don't love to bake, surely appreciate those who do. Besides baking, Peg loved gardening and decorating her house. But she was truly happiest when around her family. She especially loved to support her grandkids at their various activities. We are grateful for her every contribution to our families.

Peg will be missed by all those who were touched by her giving heart, working hands, her faith and love of family and friends, her compassion, and her love. Although her family is heartbroken by her passing, they are comforted in knowing she has no more pain and suffering. Peg is now at peace in the Eternal Kingdom where she will one day welcome us all.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Anna Spindler, her brother Ted and sister Molly. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, James J. Muldoon; daughter Ruth Ann Lattin, husband Tom and their children Daniel, Lauren, Matthew, and his wife Bekah; daughter Mary Muldoon-Pierce, husband Noal and their daughter Molly; daughter Kathleen Abercrombie, husband Tony, and their children Griffin and Erin; daughter Jean Lovelace, husband Russell, and their children Colin, Benjamin, and Catherine; and daughter Beth Calcaneo, husband Adrian, and their children Isabella and Luca. Her sisters Romaine Lynott and Christine Golden Kenowski and her brother Carl Spindler and wife Louise.
