Margaret Ann 'Tackett' Daly
September 5, 1936 – May 17, 2016
Beloved Mother of Kathleen A. Daly, Laura E. Daly and Sean J. Daly. Loving wife of James A. Daly (deceased).
Margaret Ann, known to all as Peggy, was born in East Liverpool, OH to Ishmael and Florence Tackett. She was an only child who grew up in the Depression but never knew, as a child, the sacrifices her parents made. She was a loving and carefree child with a huge heart for animals that stayed with her for the length of her life. She had many pets throughout her childhood and always defended the weak, the stray and the needy. She was immersed in all things musical, which included choir, the clarinet and piano. She was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice and sang on the radio many times. One of her favorite memories from High School was playing the lead in Anything Goes. Her ability to harmonize was effortless.
She left ELO for New York City, as a young woman, to become a Stewardess for United. It was in their offices that she met a young accountant, James (Jim) A. Daly. They soon married and started what would become a life's journey across the world. The small town East Liverpool girl travelled to unheard of countries such as Iran, Bangladesh, India and Algeria, to name a few. She fully embraced new cultures and made every attempt to learn the local language and customs. She was a fierce pioneer in a time where many woman were staying at home and raising children. She taught her children to open their hearts and minds to new experiences and to never judge.
In May of 2014, Peggy was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer. Many would balk but she did not. She fought with every arsenal available to modern medicine. She suffered many setbacks but always, through sheer force of will, came back even stronger. Up until a short month before her death, Peggy was driving her fire engine red convertible Mazda Miata, walking around her neighborhood and living in her own house and on her own terms.
In every person's life, there comes a time when the body becomes too tired, where life's many challenges become too many or the disease your waging war against overcomes even your strong will. Up until the very end, Margaret (Peggy) Daly fought but she finally lost the war. Her children were able to get her home which is where she wanted to be….in her fortress and with her cats. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in the late afternoon. She was surrounded by family and close friends and…..of course, her cats.
In lieu of flowers, Peggy and the family request that you please make a donation to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the ASPCA, the Humane Society or HPPL
