Deaconess Mabel Johnson Sellu was born in Nimba-Bahn County, Liberia, to Samuel and Marpu Johnson. She was raised in a strict but loving household that valued education and integrity. She shared a very close bond with her siblings, who described her as very outgoing, honest, and animated. She was a daddy's girl and got her love of education from her father. She left home to attend Haywood Mission school in Monrovia, Liberia, where her faith in God and desire to serve him grew. Her friendly disposition and love of life drew people to her. She made many friends and enjoyed various on campus and off campus activities. She met her lifelong friends when she joined a cultural dance club and enjoyed small group settings as such since. She was unable to attend college due to the Liberian civil war but attended and completed an administrative program at a secretariat school afterwards. She landed an administrative position with Nicom Distilleries where she was highly respected and performed so excellently that the president would trust her to run the company for weeks while traveling. Along with her position as an administrative assistant, she served as the choir director and treasurer for her community church, Maranatha Baptist Church for many years before immigrating to the United States.

In the United States, Deaconess Mabel worked as a home health aide before transitioning to the mental health field. She was loved dearly by her home health patients, some of whom kept in touch with her for many years. She had a gift of making people feel seen and special. She joined Bethel Outreach Ministries, now Harvest Intercontinental Ministries Unlimited shortly after her move to the United States and served faithfully for many years. She demonstrated her love of God and people in her service. She sang in the choir and served as head of the hospitality committee. She opened her home to guests, fed families, and took special interest in helping young couples have the wedding of their dreams.

Deaconess Mabel enjoyed a 16-year marriage to her husband Ido Queeglay who was her first love before their reconnection and marriage in 2006. She loved him dearly and honored him. She had two children, Alonzo and Laurina and three grandchildren whom she also loved dearly. She was so proud of her children and supported them in everything they put their minds to.

Although Deaconess Mabel suffered many ailments in the latter part of her life, the praise of the Lord never left her lips. It seemed that the sicker she became, the stronger her faith. She encouraged everyone to "know God for yourself" and would stay up late into the night talking to her Father. She loved the Lord and saw every day as a blessing. She did not like the word goodbye and would instead say "see you later." Indeed, we know that although she may no longer be with us in flesh, we will see her again in glory.
