Lynn Henry Slaugh's Obituary
Lynn Henry Slaugh, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on November 20, 2017 after a courageous 12-year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Lynn spent his childhood and youth in Vernal, Utah where he developed a love for the mountains and nature. His natural curiosity led him to choose a career in Chemistry research. He attended Brigham Young University where he earned his BS in Chemistry and later attended the University of Washington to earn his PhD in Chemistry.
He had a long and productive career with Shell Development Company. He enjoyed searching for new chemistry that could be commercialized. He obtained 162 US patents and several hundred foreign patents during his tenure with Shell. One of his commercialized inventions involved a catalyst that revolutionized the way detergent raw materials were made. Before his 1966 discovery, detergents were not biodegradable and caused serious environmental problems to water systems. He was truly a pioneer in environmental concerns among other interests.
He was a brilliant scientist, but his greatest loves in this life were his family and his faith in Jesus Christ. He adored his beautiful wife Deann and was deeply devoted to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
What defined Lynn the most was his kind and generous nature. He was always thinking of others and how he could help them. His help never came at a price. It was freely and generously given to anyone in need.
His final years were spent traveling and enjoying life with Deann. Together they served in the LDS temple, and they enjoyed travelling the world. Although his Parkinson's diagnosis was troubling to him as he understood the severity of the disease, he never let it define him. His courage, humility, and goodness prevailed throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Deann; his children Eric (Carmen), Jeff (Katharine) and Katie (Thomas); grandchildren Haley, Scott, Jennie, Kelsey (Timothy), Emma (Donald), Hannah (Jared), and Camille; great grandchildren Colton, Avery, Jackson, Ellie, and John; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 24, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12310 New Hampton Drive, Tomball, TX 77377. Interment will take place in Klein Memorial Park, SH 249, Tomball. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.
