Lyle L. Carmichael (MSgt, USAF, Retired), of Magnolia TX, died on Monday, March 28, 2022.
He was 86 years old.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Susannah Carmichael (née Mansfield), his brother Don (Phoenix, AZ), his sons Matthew & Grace (Decatur, AL), Dan (Missouri City, TX), and Howard & Michelle (Valley Center, CA), Daughter-in-Law Yvonne (Magnolia, TX), grandchildren Emily & Barış Ozuunlu (Colorado Springs, CO), Amy & Nick Zavorski (Magnolia, TX), Rebekah Carmichael & Bill Morgan (Cupertino, CA), Scott & Allison Carmichael (Magnolia, TX), Josh & Lauren Carmichael (Vista, CA), and 2LT Adam Carmichael, USAF (Colorado Springs, CO), and great-grandchildren Rylee, Haley, Mason, Kamryn, Kaya, Chloe, Taylor, Ayla, and Owen.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Esther Carmichael, his brothers John,and George. Sisters Ruth, Edith, and Frances, and his first wife Gillian Romesburg (née Walding).

Lyle was born in Presho, South Dakota on June 18, 1935. He was one of seven children, growing up on a family farm during the Great Depression and World War II. He was valedictorian of his high school class and briefly attended the South Dakota School of Mines
before joining the United States Air Force in 1955; serving for 23 years before retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant in 1978. He was trained as an Avionics Specialist and also flew on B-52 bombers as an electronic warfare officer during missions over Vietnam. His military service took him all over the world, with assignments in England, France, Thailand, Australia, Guam and throughout the United States. During this time, he met and married Gillian Walding, adopted her son Matthew, and later their sons Daniel & Howard were born. In the 1970s, the two divorced and Lyle met and married Susannah Mansfield in 1976. The two remained married for more than 45 years, until his death.

Upon retiring from the Air Force at Nellis AFB, NV, Lyle continued to work as a government contractor on classified projects in the Nevada desert. He retired fully in 1996 and relocated to Cabot, AR where he and Susannah enjoyed time with family, making new friends, and tending a beautiful garden. When their grandchildren began having children, Lyle and Sue moved to Magnolia, TX where they have lived ever since. Lyle's hobbies included traveling, gardening, crossword puzzles, and watching college sports.
