Luke Lawson, Ph.D.
August 8, 1968 - November 7, 2020

Luke Evan Lawson, 52, of Spring, passed away November 7, 2020.  He was born August 8, 1968, in Houston to John Evan Lawson and Carolyn Anne Horton Lawson.

Including his parents he is survived by his wife, Sonya Marie Pierce Lawson; daughters, Jordan JoAnne Lawson Denny and husband Skyler Christian Denny, Lindsey Reese Lawson, and Mallory Ruth Lawson; brother, Marc Aaron Lawson; and sister, Allison Leigh Lawson Fox.

Luke Lawson graduated from Spring High School in 1986 and then went on to attend Tarleton State University, where those that knew him, know that he bled purple 100% of the time.  He graduated from Tarleton in 1990 with a Double Major in Biology and Chemistry.  He then received his Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University in 1998 after marrying the love of his life Sonya on February 5, 1994.  They had three beautiful daughters that completed their lives; Jordan on September 19, 1994, Lindsey on September 11, 1999, and Mallory on March 23, 2004.  His daughters were his everything, and anything he did was to make them happy. These accomplishments alone are impressive, but Luke did not stop there. Tarleton State University recognized him as Young Distinguished Alumnus in 2006. He was then elected President of the Tarleton Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2015-2017.  He served as a member of the College of Science & Technology Advisory Board and a member of the School of Engineering Advisory Board at Tarleton.

To further his love of Science, Luke served on the advisory board for Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Texas.  He was on the Information Services Committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from 2016-2020 and was honored to serve as a Scholarship judge in 2018 and 2019.  Another prestigious honor that Luke possessed were two United States patents in the medical field.

Outside of Luke's love for Science and giving back, he was a loyal and active member of Klein United Methodist Church, where he helped with the Confirmation classes from 2006-2016 and served as an usher and greeter for the church. Luke touched so many people's lives and will live in our hearts FOREVER.  He was known for many different sayings, but these are two that we can all live by "Do what I do, say what I say, and make me PROUD," and "Just have fun with it!"

Serving as pallbearers are Skyler Denny, Chad Fox, Eric Damazio, Marc Lawson, Dan Sullivan, and Ross Damazio; honorary pallbearers Kenny Frazier, Roger Roth, Jason Blevins, and Chris Allen.

We are asking for donations as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers for Sonya Lawson and her family. Luke Lawson was the rock of the family and difficult times lie ahead. With Lindsey about to be going off to college, Mallory still being in high school and the holidays around the corner we would like to try to lesson some hardships off of her shoulders.
