Dr. Luis Fernando Zamora passed away Monday May 4 ^th , 2020 after a 35 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was surrounded by his children and caregivers and received many virtual visits from family and friends around the world. There will be a private funeral for family only on May 12 ^th , 2020. A memorial service will be held at a later date when health concerns over the current virus subside.

Luis Zamora was born on August 9, 1941 in La Paz, Bolivia to Gaston Zamora and Maria Esther Gainsborg de Zamora.  He attended St Andrews High School in La Paz, Bolivia and then attended the Facultad de Medicina de la Unverisdad de Chile in Santiago, Chile. He and his wife, Silvia, immigrated to the United States for his medical residency program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland and then transferred to Tulane University School of Medicine at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Afterwards, Luis and his wife moved to Houston, Texas for his medical fellowship at University of Texas Health Science Center. He practiced general surgery at a VA hospital in Clear Lake, Texas. In 1981, his family moved to the northwest side of Houston so he could join the Colon & Rectal Clinic where he practiced medicine until his retirement in 1993. Luis met the love of his life, Silvia Maria Zamora Del Castillo, while in high school. They married in 1968 and had three children, Mauricio, Cecilia and Gabriel. He is preceded in death by his son, Mauricio Zamora and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Silvia, his daughter-in-law, Pamela Weatherford Zamora, his daughter, Cecilia Zamora Buice and husband, Daniel Buice, his son, Gabriel Zamora and wife, Stephanie Lionberger Zamora. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Nicholas, Trey, Vanessa, Zachary, Vivian and Nathaniel.

When Luis was not practicing medicine, he enjoyed traveling, building train sets, watching tennis and soccer and spending time with his family. Luis exceled at his favorite sport, tennis, winning multiple Northwest Hospital Doctors' tennis tournaments. He also loved pulling pranks on his family, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was incredibly patient and kind – a gentle soul. He placed his family above all other pursuits and was a role model of a husband, father, son and brother. His pride and joy were his grandchildren whom he loved to spoil with attention and to whom he offered a "no rules" environment which included ice cream and chocolate at any occasion. Luis was determined to enjoy life despite suffering from the many progressive, debilitating symptoms of Parkinson's disease – he was a fighter.
