Virginia Louise Wood was born to Clarence Eugene and Virginia Alberta Pumphrey Wood on February 17,1926, in Whittier, California. She attended St. John's Lutheran School through the 8th grade and graduated from Orange Union High School in 1943. After graduating from Fullerton Junior College in 1945, she was employed by Edison Electric Southern California. Louise met Earl Hathorn in California where he was stationed with the United States Navy. They were married on August 16, 1955, and moved to Boling, Texas, to begin their life together.

She became the mother of Diane Denise, Dorothy Dawn, Lisa Louise, and Jack Jay. The family attended Boling Church of Christ and later attended West Columbia Church of Christ. After thirty-seven years of life in Boling, Earl and Louise moved to Belen, New Mexico, where they were members of the Rio Grande Valley Church of Christ.

Louise's final residence was Village on the Park-Steeplechase in Houston, Texas, where she lived for four years and was a member of the Cy-Fair Church of Christ in Cypress, Texas.

In her younger years, Louise enjoyed snow skiing and spending time at the beach with her friends. As her family grew, she loved vacationing in Colorado with relatives. She was always up for a competitive game of cards. The most important part of her life was dedication to the Lord. She showed this through her daily life of service to others, teaching bible classes, and her duty to family. She lived a full life!

Louise passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 16, 2026. She was preceded in death by her father Clarence, her mother Virginia, her sister and brother-in-law Opal and Otis Broyles, daughters Diane and Dorothy, and husband Earl.

She is survived by daughter Lisa and Mark Reed of Florida, and son Jack and Carla Hathorn of Houston. Louise is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

The family recommends donating in lieu of flowers to The Living Legacy Center.
