Louis Harry Demetriades, Jr. passed away at his home on October 17, 2021 at the age of 48 after a fierce, excruciatingly painful battle with bone cancer, with his wife and son by his side.

Louis was born November 7, 1972 in Daytona Beach, FL, and as a military kid, lived many different places including Germany during his childhood. Early on, he learned how to make friends and get along with many different people, which contributed to him being someone who was always easy to talk to throughout his life. He learned to swim in order to go deep sea fishing. That was the start of a lifelong passion and career for him.

Louis gave his all to his family and swimming. He took his job as spiritual leader of the home very seriously, and that spilled over into other areas of his life. He was a great, devoted Dad to his son. They had an enviable father/son relationship, as well as a distinct, positive coach/swimmer relationship. He was also a father figure and role model to many who he coached throughout his 27 years as a career club swim coach.

His motto was "Make It Happen." He always did whatever it took to get things done — the right things — even if it was hard or unpopular. He walked his talk and you always knew where he stood.

Louis graduated from Flagler-Palm Coast High School in Palm Coast, FL in 1991. After two years at Brevard Community College in Cocoa, FL, he transferred to the University of South Dakota to finish out his swimming career and earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Management in 1997. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and was a much-loved and respected brother. In 2016, he completed his Masters degree in Sports Science Coaching from Ohio University.

Louis began his coaching career in 1995 as an assistant coach at the University of South Dakota. He soon transitioned to club coaching, and began his club coaching career at Swim Omaha. From there he went on to be the Head Age Group Coach for Nashville Aquatic Club and was named Southeastern Coach of the Year in 1999. He then took over as Head Coach for the NGSV Gators in Laguna Hills, CA, then served as Head Coach of Memphis Tiger Swimming in Memphis, TN, and finally served as Head Coach of Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club (Fleet) in Cypress, TX. Everywhere he went, he made people and things better and stronger. Over the years, he had numerous Top 10 swimmers and multiple National #1's. He placed kids on the Pan-American Team, National Junior Team, and the Lebanese Olympic Team. Several also qualified for the US Olympic Trials. However, he was as happy for his swimmers who moved from BB to A times as he was for any of them. He was committed to excellence and making his kids the best they could be. Ultimately, he wanted them to be great human beings.

Louis is survived by his wife of 21 years, Suzanne (Bricker) Demetriades, and son Louis (Louie) Demetriades, III. His father, Louis (Lou) Demetriades, Sr. also survives him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joann (Martin) Demetriades.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27th at Bayou City Fellowship, 12715 Telge Road, Cypress, TX 77429.
