Obituary

Louie Elmo Curto

May 20, 1939-June 9, 2017

Louie Elmo Curto was born in Port Angeles, Washington on May 20, 1939 to Elmo and Rose Curto, the oldest of three boys and first member of his family born in the United States. After graduating from Port Angeles high school in 1957 he served two years in the U.S. Navy earning an honorable discharge. He immediately returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Sherrill (Sherry) Van Tine on September 13, 1959. They moved to Seattle where he attended the University of Washington earning a degree in business and started their family. Upon graduation, he was hired by Shell Oil Company as regional manager of company owned service stations. He progressed quickly through management moving his family to Scottsdale, Arizona for two and a half years and then on to the company's headquarters in Houston, TX where he eventually served as director of state lobbyists. He spent over 30 years at Shell before retiring in 1994. His retirement years were spent traveling the globe with Sherry and being "Nonno", which he called his "best job ever". He died on June 9, 2017 following a brief but intense fight with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary Curto. He is survived by his wife Sherry of The Woodlands, TX, his brother and sister-in-law Dan and Karen Curto of Port Angeles, Washington and his sister-in-law Kay Curto of Cookesville TN, his sons Rick (Lorri) Curto of Houston, TX, Chris (Jeanie) Curto of Garland, TX and daughter Gina (Tim) Bruner of Plantersville, TX, his seven grandchildren, Rachel (Tim) Bevan, Chris Curto II, Chelsea Curto, Stephen Curto, Brett Baxter, Rex Baxter IV and Paul Curto and two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Madeline Bevan. He was a wonderful example of how to live life to the fullest and will be greatly missed.
