Lola "Megan" Hardin, 81, passed away on Saturday, November 16th, 2024. She was born in Mobile, Alabama on March 4, 1943.

"Lola Mae" as she was called by her family, grew up in Mobile, Alabama where she was the youngest of four children to parents Carthy Ronway Ryals, Sr. and Lottie Hazel Moffett Ryals.

Upon graduation in 1962 from Murphy High School in Mobile County, Lola Megan moved to Washington, DC to work as a page in Congress. In the fall she enrolled at East Texas Baptist College. She played the piano and was a member of the ETBC opera choir where she enjoyed performing in La Traviata. While studying psychology at ETBC in Marshall, TX she met her husband, Ed Hardin.  After Ed graduated, they married at First Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas on September 20th, 1963. They moved to Denton where she enrolled  at TWU and then transferred to North Texas University. She worked at the Federal Records Center in Fort Worth. They moved to Mesquite where she worked in Dallas as a secretary at the Federal Building and moved later to Oak Cliff, Texas while Ed went to basic training. They lived in Shirley, Massachusetts where Megan worked at the Military Reclamation Facility. They moved to Augusta, Georgia while Ed went to Officer Training School in Fort Gordon. Megan then moved back to Mobile before giving birth to their first child, Edmond Dee Hardin, Jr.

After Little Edmond was born, Ed was transferred to Fort Monmouth Radio School in N.J. From there, they were stationed in Krabbenloch-Karserne in Ludwigsville, Germany. Megan enrolled in University of Maryland language classes in Germany, where she became fluent in German. Her fluency gained her employment at a high priority military office in Stuttgart, Germany. Megan and Little Edmond returned to Mobile in early 1969 when Ed was stationed in Vietnam. On September 6, 1969, Megan gave birth to her 2nd child, Daria "Christy."

After Ed's tour, he and Megan were stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Following his discharge she and Ed went to Austin, Texas where Megan enrolled at the University of Texas. They later moved to Washington D.C. where Megan got a job at the IRS and Ed at the U.S. Treasury Dept.

In 1974, Megan and Ed were transferred to Houston where Megan worked for the Department of Justice and the Treasury Department. Megan spent her career moving through the ranks where she achieved the highest GS rating. Megan was a valuable asset to every group because of her excellent work, people and organizational skills.

Megan was not only a full time government employee, she was a full time mom. She was a nurturing mother to two busy teenage children. She attended all the games, recitals, meets, Brownie and Cub Scout meetings that Edmond, Jr. and Christy were a part of. She kept them, fed, clothed and in line with lots of love. On September 21st, 1982, Ed and Megan welcomed their 3rd child, Mary Beth. Megan continued to serve her family as a loving, supportive and devoted wife and mother.

Megan was active in Evangelism Explosion. In 1987 she joined Houston's First Baptist Church choir and was active in Christmas Pageant. She was a Chaplain with C.E.R.T. and participated in the neighborhood patrol. Megan was an avid reader with interests in psychology, grammar, diction, etiquette, nutritional health and all things royal family. She was an astute editor who could proof all forms of writing, assignments, applications and any Department of Energy reports and could do it all "dressed to the nines." She enjoyed antiquing, government and politics, playing the piano, classical music, fashion, sweater and baby clothes shopping. She was an intentional collector of broken animals requiring all manner of life sustaining measures. She spontaneously danced to the radio, gospel music, weddings and any tune that moved her feet: she was a "Dancing Queen." She had a double portion of mercy and compassion while gift giving was her love language.

Megan is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ed Hardin, Sr. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Julie Hardin, daughter Daria (Tom) McCray, daughter Mary Beth (Orly) Angelo, her grandchildren Jonathan (Erika) Hardin, Jordan (Hao) Ma, Marshall (Kathryn) McCray, Sheridan McCray, Miles Angelo, Jackson Walworth, Allison Walworth, Arlo Angelo, Natalie Angelo, and one great grand child Henning Hardin.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son Edmond Hardin, Jr.,

parents Carthy Ryals, Sr. and Lottie Hazel Ryals of Alabama, Brother Carthy Ryals, Jr. of Alabama, sister Jo (Walter) Gummelt of Virginia, brother Jim (Lu) Ryals of Arizona.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec 3rd, 2024 at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, TX 77065 at 4pm for the family, and 5-8pm for the public.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, Dec 4th, 2024 at 10am at the Klein Funeral Home Chapel 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston TX 77065.

Reverends Sam Parker and Mike Philips will be officiating.
