Lloyd Benford Hurd, Jr. went to be with his Father in Heaven on March 1, 2022. Ben was the son of Lloyd Benford Hurd, Sr. and Beulah Hurd of Galax, Virginia. He is survived by his wife Bettye, son Trevor Hurd and wife, Kerri of Bethany Beach, Delaware, daughter Heather Hurd of Spring, Texas and sister Janice Lumpp of Nashville, Tennessee, granddaughters Riley and Finley Hurd of Bethany Beach, Delaware, niece and nephews, Lloyd, Walter, and Choyer Lumpp, Barry Tisdale and Terri Tisdale Dawes.

Ben grew up in Galax, Virginia and graduated from Galax High School. He then graduated for Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. He attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) located in Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. He served four years as an officer in the Navy, with his last tour on the USS Lexington, now located in Corpus Christi, Texas.

After the Navy, Ben and Bettye married in 1965. He pursued a career in medical sales. They lived in several cities, with their last residence being Spring, Texas. During his retirement he enjoyed working for Klein Funeral Home where he made many friends.

He was a deacon at Champion Forest Baptist Church. Ben and Bettye enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes and discipling young married couples. Recently, he was active in the Mountain Climbers Sunday School class and the Men in the Loop Bible Class.

Ben served on the Cypress Klein Utility District Board for many years. He also presided over many of his children's high school organizations. He mentored numerous young professionals wanting to enter medical sales.

Ben loved his granddaughters, playing golf, western movies, old tv shows, and his four dogs.

The hospital staff consistently demonstrated kindness, attentiveness, and compassion. The hospital was a comfort to Ben and to his Family
