Obituary

On Wednesday, January 24, beloved daughter, sister, wife and mother, Linda Lou Schmidt Baker passed on to be with her Lord and Savior. Linda was born in New Orleans, LA on May 15, 1942 to Grace Kramer Schmidt and Robert Edward Schmidt.  She spent her formative years in Hattiesburg, MS and New Orleans, LA and attended John McDonough Senior High graduating in 1960.  She went on to attend Mississippi Southern University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Speech with minors in English and Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1965.

While attending Southeastern she met the love of her life, Albert Melvin Baker, with whom she would spend 54 wonderful years. Linda and Albert were married in December of 1964 and began their family soon after.  Linda had three sons, Robert Earl Baker, Brook Abbott Baker and Todd Christopher Baker.  Shortly after having their third child in 1971, Linda and Albert moved from Biloxi, MS to Houston, TX.  It was in 1982 when Al and Linda moved their family to Hockley, TX that Linda found her calling.  She began teaching kindergarten in a tiny one-room building on the Girls Country campus in Hockley.  The small schoolhouse was originally intended for the children of the Cottage Parents of Boys and Girls Country but quickly began to grow.  Linda took great pride in how each and every one of her students flourished under her tutelage.  Linda worked tirelessly for her students and everyone loved having her for a teacher.  The school grew into what is now Rosehill Christian School.  Linda retired in 2008 after a wonderful 35-year career teaching kindergarten.

Linda was also a woman of faith. She was a member of the congregation of Macedonia United Methodist Church and enjoyed being a part of the congregation participating in and leading many aspects of the church's programs.

Linda is preceded in passing by her mother Grace Kramer Schmidt, father Robert Edward Schmidt, sister Grace Jo Farris and her cousin Winnie Holden. She is survived by her husband Albert, sons Robert, Brook & Todd, sister Trudy Jane Schmidt, niece Abigayle Farris, grandchildren Christopher, Emily & Ethan.
