Linda Joyce Metzger Wortley was born September 12, 1951, in Tulsa, Oklahoma and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 8, 2026, four days before her 75th birthday. Her parents, Judith and Jack Metzger, her sister, Stacie King, and her brother, Jack Metzger, preceded her in death.

Linda grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she attended Catholic school for part of her education and where, in the seventh grade, she met a boy named Mitch Wortley who would become her husband. After high school, Linda attended the University of Oklahoma for two years, then left school and went to work at Cities Service in Oklahoma City so that Mitch could finish his degree in Norman. It was the first of many quiet sacrifices she would make for the people she loved. Linda and Mitch were married in 1972 and were happily married for 54 years.

After the family moved to the Houston area, Linda gave her time to others. She volunteered at her church in the days when the bulletin was a single page put together by hand, spent several years in the Mother’s Day Out program at Cypress Methodist Church, and then worked for many years as a nurse’s aide in the school nurse’s office in the Cy-Fair school district before retiring.

Through it all, her faith remained the center of her life. Linda was a devoted Catholic her whole life and a faithful member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church for over 40 years, where she could be found in the front row every weekend. When her health no longer allowed her to attend in person, she watched Mass online from home, and even when she herself was not well, she continued to serve others in need through the Eucharistic Ministry for the Sick.

Away from church and work, Linda’s happiest days were spent with family. She loved camping, a tradition passed down from her own parents, and she loved the beach. She was passionate about her beagles, of which she had eight or nine over her lifetime, with Max the clear and present favorite.

Above all, she loved her husband, her three children, and her 11 grandchildren. Linda is survived by her husband Mitch Wortley and her children Lora Hill and husband Kris, Becky Perez and husband Daniel, and Michael Wortley and wife Allison. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christian, Jacob, Rowan, and Ryann Hill, Reece, Joe, Lily, Ellie, and Peter Perez, and William and Bennett Wortley.

To all of them, and to everyone she touched, Linda was a loving, hardworking, creative, and thoughtful lady, loved for her devotion to her family, her church, and her friends. Her thoughtfulness showed in everything she did, and never more than in her gifts: each one carefully conceived to weave seamlessly into the fabric of who you were. She will be dearly missed.
