Linda Annelle Byers, a long-time Houston resident, died early on June 5, 2023, following a brief illness. The daughter of Robert Alonzo Byers and Nell Merrill Byers, she was born on March 26, 1947, in Falfurrias, Texas. Her love of horses led her to participate in local rodeos after the family moved to Mauriceville, Texas, and she was honored as Rodeo Queen when she was sixteen. After graduating from Mauriceville High School, she attended East Texas Baptist College and Lamar University. Linda was employed in the telecommunications industry, beginning as a teletype operator with Southwestern Bell in 1967; she retired from AT&T as an administrative assistant in 2002. She was married to James Gaudet from 1971 to 1982.

Linda is best remembered by those who knew her as a kind, loving, and compassionate person. She adored her Lord, her family, and her friends. She had a special concern for animals of all kinds, especially those that were injured or abandoned, and she took many cats and dogs into her home through the years. They became her "babies" since she had none of her own.

She was predeceased by both of her parents; her brother, Jerry Kincannon, and his wife Clara; her sister, Edythe Pickering, and her husband Jack; and her nephew, Jack Pickering Jr.  Left to mourn her loss are Linda's brother, Tom Kincannon, and his wife Margaret; nephews Rick Pickering and wife Rosa, Lonnie Kincannon, and Jeff Kincannon and wife Lisa; nieces Kelly O'Hair, and Coleen Lewis and husband Lance; great-nephews Rick Pickering Jr. and wife Jenny, Chris Pickering and wife Heather, Spencer O'Hair, Sawyer O'Hair, Evan McAuliffe, and Cameron Lewis; great-nieces Alese Pickering, Sydney McAuliffe, and Caroline Lewis; great-great-nephews Jamie Pickering and Cody Pickering; and special lifelong friends Beverly McWhirter and Sharon Davis, as well as many others who loved her.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, June 12, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, at First Baptist Church of Cypress, 14515 Cypress N. Houston Road, Cypress, TX 77429. A graveside committal service will take place at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 4560 Highway 87 S, Orange, TX 77630.
