Lillian Marie Howard Colson, 92 (and ¾!), passed away January 24, 2023.

Marie was born April 1, 1930 in Ennis, Texas to Leonard and Mary Jenkins Howard and was the seventh of eight children; all having preceded her in death.

Marie was reared in Hearne, Texas and attended public school there.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hearne and it was in April, 1937 at an outdoor revival conducted by Pastor Tilson F. Maynard that she came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

On August 17, 1946, she married Joe Ellis Colson at the Methodist parsonage in Hearne.  Five children were born to this union:  Gayla Diane Payne of Garrison, Texas; Elise Jo Inman of Houston, Texas; Joe Michael Colson of Boerne, Texas; Steven Irl Colson of Spring, Texas; and Iris Marie Strathdee of Houston, Texas.

Marie loved tole painting, crafts of all kinds, and was an excellent seamstress.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cypress, Texas.  Before her decline in health, she loved singing in the choir and helping out her church wherever she could.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Colson, daughter, Iris Strathdee, parents, three sisters, four brothers, grandson, Joe Colson, and son-in-law, John Payne.  She is survived by nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 at Klein Funeral Home located at 9719 Wortham, Houston, Texas 77065 .  Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. with funeral to follow at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will be at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne, Texas that afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Cypress Benevolence Fund, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or charity of your choice.
